Wine subscription #34
“Torrontés served two ways”

CHF 48.- per month - Deliveries all over Switzerland - 10 boxes per year - In summer July & August off.

This is an emotional goodbye to the Curious Wine Humans after 34 months together.

For our final outing, I wanted to explore Argentina's only native white grape, Torrontés.

I've selected two unique expressions of this varietal.

Let's call it "Torrontés—Served Two Ways," like those fancy restaurants that present the same ingredient prepared in different styles.

We have one natural-style wine that pairs beautifully with cheese, and one sparkling—because what's Christmas without bubbles!

La Oveja Blanco from Santa Julia 2021 is crafted as a natural wine, bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfites and wild yeast fermentation. Due to this low-intervention approach, I've noticed fascinating variations between bottles. Some show oxidative characteristics with notes of caramel, mature apple, dried apricots, almond, and citrus peel—creating a wonderfully complex profile. Other bottles reveal fresher, fruitier peach and apricot notes. The acidity is bright and refreshing, making it a perfect cheese companion!

The second wine is truly exceptional: a Sparkling Torrontés from Bodega Tapiz. Grown in the high-altitude vineyards of San Pablo at 1,400 meters, it offers crisp, refreshing bubbles with notes of ripe pineapple and pear. This traditional method sparkling wine spends 10 months on the lees in bottle—think of it as Argentina's answer to Crémant for your Christmas celebrations!

Being Extra-Brut (very dry), it's perfect with aperitifs and antipasti.

As a final note, I'm deeply grateful to everyone who joined this curious journey, and I hope our paths cross again.

Keep exploring, keep learning, and stay curious.

Big hugs and Merry Christmas to everyone.
